www.iPage.com
A great way of finding out if a web hosting company will provide quality service is finding out about their history. The past can be predictive of future performance. Typically speaking the longer a web host has been in business the better their services will be. iPage.com has been providing hosting services since 1995. This may not sound like a very long time to some but we have to remember that the internet is still in its early stages of development, relatively speaking. iPage.com is in our opinion one of the best kept secrets out there today as it combines and delivers quality services and value. It is no surprise that when people speak of web hosting, other hosting companies often comes to mind due to their commercial branding or their reputation among webmaster. However, iPage.com clearly deserves to be in the top tier and in our view, offers a better overall quality and value proposition than most other web hosts. Let us tell you why.
Reliability
With the way the internet is today, having a reliable web host is a must. This begs the question, can iPage.com provide this to customers? Based on considerable feedback and hands on experience of our own webmasters, we give it a ringing endorsement. Using the fastest machines available, iPage.com employs a pool of servers which they use to support your websites. These servers provide redundancy, faster load times and fewer interruptions. iPage.com has two data centers located in Boston, MA. Together, they take up over 2,400 square feet. Both centers have over 800 servers with 24/7 security. iPage.com also offers a security suite only exclusive to iPage.com subscribers. This security suite includes account specific malware and spam scanning, domain verification and security badge. iPage.com employs a very unique hosting architecture where a site is served by a pool of redundant servers instead of a single backup server. We cannot emphasize enough how important that is. What this all spells is a hosting platform you can count on and that is important as downtime is the enemy of any webmaster.

www.Bluehost.com
Wherever you look on the net it seems Bluehost.com is at the top of every major hosting review website, and ours is no different. WebHostMentor.com is currently hosted by Bluehost.com (fully paid account, they don’t sponsor us at all). The webmasters we talk to on a daily basis unanimously speak highly of Bluehost.com‘s hosting platform. Which poses an interesting question. What makes Bluehost.com so good? Let’s start at the beginning. Bluehost.com was created in 1996 by web developer and marketer Matt Heaton (he created the famous SiteCounter.com back in the nienties) and from the moment they hit the internet, they became one of the most popular and fastest growing hosts out there. The same can still be said about Bluehost.com today. We examined more closely why so many webmasters speak so highly of Bluehost.com. They currently host over 1,000,000 web sites and have become experts at combining low cost web hosting with quality web hosting services that are often absent with some of the other larger web hosts. If you browse through their website you will discover an avalanche of features including live demos, help centers, a free site builder, a free domain forever, unlimited file transfer, unlimited hosting space, a site promotion package, an active blog and forum, live chat, and on and on. It would be just ridiculous to list them all in this review since you can click on the link at the end of this review and see for yourself. But, at last count, we came up with 79 features, products, and services starting at $7.95.a month, if you prepay for one year. The price goes down to $6.96 per month if you prepay for two years. Its akin to a one stop hosting shop, offered at a very reasonable price. You can go right online before buying anything and try out some of their tools. Its fair to say that where Bluehost.com shines is in providing to its customers a complete web hosting solution at one of the most competitive price points out there for a web hosting company of their size. Lets find out what else Bluehost.com has to offer.
Reliability
Just like our other top 5 web hosting provider picks, Bluehost.com has exceptional reliability. They have a world class data center that provides top of the industry uptime and multiple functional administrative tools. They have also implemented High Performance Xeon Servers that will eliminate any blips in the system and stand by their technology with what they call the ultimate uptime guarantee. Bluehost.com also performs routine backup checks to ensure that your data is never lost in the fray. Not only is their High Performance Xeon Servers reliable, but also extremely fast. None of our own webmasters or those we quizzed have encountered issues with reliability and given Bluehost.com‘s long track record in this area, it is understandable why they have gained so much traction in the marketplace.

www.FatCow.com
Don’t be fooled by the name because FatCow.com web hosting does more than hold it’s own. It is the perfect example of not judging a book by its cover. FatCow.com is one of the best, most versatile web hosts out there today. When it all comes down to hosting platforms, the Cow has a knack for delivering. FatCow.com was born in 1998 and from the get go was designed to be an alternative and affordable hosting platform design geared at cutting through all of the technical babble to make things a lot easier for its users to understand and operate. FatCow.com has everything that a small or medium business website needs to succeed. Of all the hosting plans we evaluated, this very competent group displays a culture that brought us to chuckle and ask, “Why didn’t we think of this!”
Reliability
If the name of the game is reliability, then we have to declare FatCow.com as one of the finalists. Their data center is located in Burlington, Massachusetts and comes fully equipped with top of the line features. They pride themselves of employing a “Load-Balanced Hosting” solution that will stop any technical failures. FatCow.com is backed by over 800 servers. When using this system your site will literally have numerous paths to its destination. FatCow.com also provides physical security and surveillance systems. Impressively, they offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee and a 30 day money back guarantee if you are not pleased with their service. When it comes to reliable web hosting, FatCow.com reigns supreme.
Price
At the time of this review, FatCow.com was offering their Original Hosting Plan for $3.67 a month along with a Free Domain For Live. Not to bad considering many other hosting companies charge anywhere from $8.00 to $20.00 per month. If you have concerns as to whether you are getting enough bang for your buck, worry no more. Our webmasters at WebHostMentor.com were highly complimentary of the FatCow.com value proposition. FatCow.com allows you to have unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited Emailboxes and customized email address. They are WordPress, phpBB and Joomla friendly. They have point and click site building tools, integrated Google Webmaster tools, application installation wizards, and many other exciting and helpful goodies. www.HostGator.com
When it comes to web hosting leaders, HostGator.com is clearly a top tier option. The success HostGator.com has achieved has been unprecedented. They are one of the world’s 10 largest web hosting companies. According to their site, they host well over 2,500,000 domains. They have also been ranked number 21 on the Inc 5000 fastest growing companies in America. From the years 2005 to 2008, HostGator.com achieved a 900% increase in revenue. So as you can tell HostGator.com has been very successful. Here at WebHostMentor.com, HostGator.com ranks as a top favorite within our group. Now HostGator.com didn’t pay us to say that. Its just the way it has fallen out. More of us consistently use this platform because it just conforms with what we like. Now lets find out why
Reliability
In order to earn the trust of customers it is essential that you establish reliable hosting services, otherwise your company will tumble. Just like the other hosting services we recommend, HostGator.com has a state of the art data center with backup power generators and all of the techno goodies to make her hum. They boast a 99.9% uptime record. HostGator.com also went a step further and introduced a Gigabit Uplink with a Guaranteed 20mbit connection. This assures that there will be no failures in any network. HostGator.com has also implemented several layers of network security ensuring the safety of all your information. We could go on and on about their technology, but its fair to say that all of the five hosting services we recommend and that met our standards, excel in this area. Along with outstanding customer support, the reliability of the technology is a green fee to even being considered for this review.

Green web hosting has become increasingly popular among the web hosting industry. Even some of the biggest web hosting names are starting to turn towards alternative energy sources to power their servers.
This poses an interesting question. What exactly is green web hosting?
Believe it or not there are actually some ways that web hosting companies can become more environmentally friendly. Probably the most common way for hosting to become green is carbon offsetting. The concept is quite simple. Companies have began to do things like plant new trees for every new account that is purchased. Another popular way for hosts to go green is energy friendly servers. There are a lot of new servers that can potentially cut down on the voltage and heat a typical server would use. Some companies have even taken to using propane rather than go with diesel for backup resources. Even windmills have been used to power entire offices. In some cases web hosts have implemented paperless offices.
Now that we have a better understanding of green web hosting we can take a look at which of our top 5 made the green list.

With the way the internet is today, scams can be found under any niche but especially in web hosting. No one ever wants to be taken advantage of. Our website is geared at pointing out what we feel are some of the better web hosting companies when one considers the range of hosting plans, reliability, customer services, and price. But we also feel obliged here at Web Host Mentor to educate our visitors on the many different ways that web hosts could potentially be scamming you. The web hosting business is becoming a very croweded field, with some cut throat practices. Some companies out there will try to sell you a plan that is smaller than they claim or they frequently go offline after your purchase. So it may be advisable to stay clear of new start-ups until there is a track record to evaluate. Also, some people will try to sell you a portion of their own personal web hosting plan. This is fine if you do not need to store a lot of information. However, this is bound to go wrong because you do not have full control of your own files.
There have been incidents where an amazing new web host emerges on the scene with incredible new deals. Everything seems great until you purchase their services and they literally close up shop and run away with all of your money. Take it a step further and you realize that this amazing new host has also run away with all of your files and copies all of your content on a separate domain. Since these types of hosts run under a different name and buisness, it makes it difficult to track them down and take legal action.
1. Poor Contact: The poor hosting companies don’t won’t to be bothered with talking to its customers. They make it very difficult
to reach them and under budget this part of their business. The outright scam artists are all about the shell game.

We always appreciate hearing from the users of our web site. While we have narrowed down the plethora of web hosting services from many dozens to what we believe are the top five, you may still have a question as to which one suits you best. We are happy to provide you with this FREE service. Just email us your question and we will get back to you with an answer. Simple us that. Your email address and question is kept strictly private. And we won’t be adding you to any email list and sending you annoying spam product offerings. We simply believe in ”paying it forward”. Since you favored us with a visit to our website, we feel obliged to answer any hosting questions you may have. Or if you wish, you can leave a public comment at the end of any of our article reviews and we will respond.
First, let me say that we believe that you will be satisfied if you chose any of the five hosting companies that we have recommended. However, every webmaster I have spoken with in the past have certain things they prioritize as being more or less important when they make the final web host decision. For some it can be price. For others price may be a component of what they value, but they may place more emphasis on the customer service or the reliability side. Still others have told us they have certain green fees. For example, see the question we received from Bill T. (re-print permission was granted to post the question and reply).
Bill T: I’m looking for a host that with CPanel, works with word press, and can have as many websites on hosting account. Yea, price is part of equation too. A friend tells me to go with Yahoo small buisness. He says that you get it all and its pretty cheap. That’s what am worried about. What am I missing out on. What say you?
WebHostMentor.com: We don’t recommend Yahoo small business for a variety of reasons. You can google some independent reviews and get a sense of where we are coming from. Its important never to rely on just one data point. Reliability and customer service are certainly important elements and I would encourage you to scrutinize this area. Yahoo does not provide you with the CPanel and they do not come cheap. Yahoo charges $6.47/month for 1st 3 months, then $9.95/month after). I suggest you take a deeper dive and review some of our recommendatiions as they all meet your criteria and at a more attractive price.
